Learn All About Various Types of Spring Washers

A spring washer is a curved metal ring split to form a spiraling shape like that of a spring to apply force with greater resistance. It is used to prevent the fastener from losing its grip and hold it firmly in place. Using a spring washer leaves almost zero chance of loosening as a result of any vibration because it distributes the load of a fastener. Other than providing resistance, distributing the load, and reducing vibrations, a spring washer is also used as a spacer and spring. Spring washer also comes in a variety of shapes and sizes, which are classified into five types to simplify.

Belleville Spring Washer:

Belleville spring washer is a cone-shaped ring that doesn’t have any split. It is disc-like but slightly conical which makes it easier to deflect force and distribute the load. It can be positioned either in series or parallel separately or a combination of both for maximum load distribution and deflection of force.

Curved Spring Washer:

The curved spring washer is a disc-shaped ring that also doesn’t have any split. It is slightly curved which gives it the shape of a single wave. It is usually used as a spring or locker with a fastener because it absorbs maximum deflection of force and prevents end play. It applies very light pressure which makes it much better for the distribution of load.

Finger Spring Washer:

Finger spring washer is also a disc-like ring but with bent tangs around its circumference. It is mostly used on rotating objects like ball bearings. Its bent tangs give it the quality of a spring so that it can provide a much tighter grip which makes it perfect for ball bearing preload. It also prevents sliding on rotating objects.

Wave Spring Washer:

The wave spring washer is also a disc-like ring but it has curves like waves as the name indicates. Its waves give it a three-point connection which provides the greater load-bearing capability. Its three-point wave shape counteracts deflection of force, distributes pressure, and regulates load.

Shaft Lock Washer:

The shaft lock washer as the name specifies is a disc-like ring with shafts all around it. Its shafts make it ideal to lock bearings tightly in place. It locks bearings so securely that it helps prevent any loosening caused by vibrations. It is used with a shaft lock nut. It is the least expensive and most commonly used washer.

Why use Spring Washer?

Unlike a plain washer, a spring washer is more flexible to use because of its diverse and unique designs which allow it to perform multiple functions altogether. It helps its consumers in achieving maximum stability and firmness in its product. Spring washers can be found locally in the market but China spring washer exporter provides the finest quality of spring washers that are coated with corrosion-resistant chemicals to eliminate any resistance caused by force, pressure, load, vibrations, etc.
